Expressions of interest are open for Paediatricians and Geriatricians members to join the Professional Services Review Panel.
Applicants should currently be practicing, have at least 5 years’ experience, and be in good standing with the College.
Appointed members are required to attend 1 annual training day, plus an additional 4-6 days each year if required to sit on a committee. There will also be additional work reviewing materials for committees, which members will conduct on their own time.
Appointed members will be remunerated for their work according to the remuneration tribunal. The RACP will collate all received nominations and forward them to PSR for consideration.
Note: Members will not be representing the RACP but will serve in an individual capacity.
About
The Professional Services Review Panel is an independent statutory agency that conducts reviews when there is concern a practitioner may have inappropriately billed under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) or Children’s Dental Benefit Scheme (CDBS) or prescribed under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
The PSR is responsible for ensuring public confidence in Australia’s Medicare benefits and pharmaceutical benefits schemes. It ensures that no patients are harmed through inappropriate practice and that the Commonwealth and taxpayers are not paying for inappropriate practice.
Following a review, the Director PSR can decide to create a Committee, comprised of members of the profession or specialty of a person under review, and refer that person to the Committee.
The Committee’s role is to decide whether the conduct of the person under review in providing or initiating services would be unacceptable to the general body of their peers.
The Committee considers clinical records and any other material provided. Committee members are practitioners drawn from the PSR Panel. Practitioners on this panel are appointed by the Minister for Health, after consultation with the AMA and other professional bodies.
