Tender Description

This is a panel refresh for an existing panel GS2514706 Private Provider Program. Successful bidders will be onboarded till the end of existing arrangements i.e. September 2027.

The Private Provider Program (PPP) is operated by Territory Wide Surgical Services (TWSS) and manages and estimated 600 to 1400 patients on the elective surgery waitlist per annum.

Between 600 and 1400 of the Territory’s elective surgery procedures are currently undertaken through the current services contract. CHS has insufficient resources such as theatre time and beds (both ward beds and ICU beds) for these services to return to the Canberra Hospital (TCH), a new agreement with private hospitals is required to meet the ongoing needs for these procedures.

The demand for elective surgery in the Territory is growing at approximately 3 per cent per annum, with the number of patients waiting longer than their recommended time frames on the Elective Surgery Waiting List (ESWL) increasing.

Scope:

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is seeking to engage a panel of Suppliers to provide elective Surgery and elective Orthopaedic Services to assist in reducing patient numbers on the Territory’s ESWL.

The objective of this procurement is to increase emergency surgery capacity at the TCH by moving elective day and overnight surgeries, freeing elective sessions for emergency work.

Moving elective day and overnight surgeries and elective Orthopaedic services off site will create capacity for emergency theatres, as well as an increase in hospital bed availability and improved timeliness to surgeries for patients waiting for elective surgery.
