SRW is implementing its plan to engage an experienced contractor to carry out upgradation works on the intake tower crane of the Merrimu Reservoir.

There are two main components of the works package:

The crane structure requires rectification of some issues related to its structural integrity, mechanical reliability, access and health and safety (details in the section 3 of the Adra Crane Inspection Report).

The Crane hoist currently do not have a permanent deck for accessing the hoist which is about 4775mm high of the tower roof. Accessing the crane hoist for maintenance is a big issue due to its height, and scaffolding costs are prohibitive particularly when 3 monthly servicing is required. Therefore, a permanent maintenance access platform to enable proper inspection and maintenance of the hoist equipment is required. The design for the maintenance deck has already been completed and scope of the work will include supply and installation of the platform too.

Southern Rural Water provides forward notice that procurement of C5314 – Merrimu Tower Crane Upgradation, shall commence on 07/02/2023.
