Tender Description

The National Clinical Quality Registry Program (National CQR Program) aims to improve the quality of health care and ensure better health outcomes for Australian patients. As part of this Program, the Department is leading a range of key priorities under the National Clinical Quality Registry and Virtual Strategy 2020-2030 (the Strategy).

Increasing national standardisation of Clinical Quality Registry (CQR) data items and elements forms a key part of Strategy Pillar 6: Priority 23. This will provide the foundation to support more efficient information exchange and interoperability between CQRs, Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), and other clinical information and health systems in future.

As a first step in progressing this work, the Department wishes to undertake a mapping exercise to identify the common data elements captured in national CQRs. This will help determine priorities for future development of standardised interoperability architecture for CQRs.

The CQRs in scope of this project include: CQRs funded under the National CQR Program; identified as a priority on the Australian Register of Clinical Registries; that are of appropriate maturity to collect suitable data elements; and have information available on data elements collected (such as published data dictionaries).

The successful tenderer will map what data is collected, sources of data and what standards are in place for in scope CQRs. The project will also identify the common elements across the CQRs and their level of uniformity. The tenderer will work with stakeholders to determine an initial set of CQR items/variables that would benefit most from the application of national standards.
A final report, including the recommended set of core priorities and practical considerations for next steps, will be delivered to the Department.
