Tender Description
This project is a joint collaboration effort with RSPCA Victoria in an investment in infrastructure to enable the MZ Animal Hospital to cope with the surge demand in animal care that inevitably follows wildlife emergency events. The recent fires of summer 2019/2020 have highlighted the importance of such facilities. Zoos Victoria and RSPCA Veterinary teams assisted in the field of fire-stricken regions helping to treat and care for wildlife significantly impacted by the fires. It became apparent that the region had short supply of suitable housing for animals requiring longer term treatment before release.
We are seeking a builder who shares our passion and commitment to helping Australia's animals and ensuring a future rich in wildlife by joining us as we create a Wildlife Hospital at Melbourne Zoo.
The MZ Wildlife Hospital will be a standalone building, approximately 26.6 x 16.1m, behind the current vet facilities with the capacity for linkage to existing at a later date. The building is to contain:
- 3 x large indoor/outdoor animal holding enclosures
- 3 x small indoor/outdoor animal holding enclosures
- 1 x intensive care unit
- Kitchenette for preparation of animal diets
- Storage room
- Airlock/Flight Tunnel along 2 sides containing outdoor yards
- Utility services: power, communication services, water, sewer and storm-water drainage
- Heating/Cooling
Construction targeted to commence as soon as reasonably practicable.
