Tender Description

The Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Government’s primary law enforcement agency, is planning to publish a Request for Tender (RFT) in Q2 FY18/19 for the provision of a corporate federated search tool for its Information Discovery Application (IDA) project.

The AFP is an organisation reliant on its data stores to provide accurate information for its operational activities. AFP investigative data is held within various operational data stores specific to AFP business areas. Currently AFP members are unable to readily search the breadth of these data holdings. As a consequence, the task of searching for and locating data is both costly and time-consuming.

The IDA capability will reduce investigative effort and improve investigative efficiencies and schedules. It will also assist in ensuring all related investigative data held by the AFP can be quickly identified and included for consideration. As a corporate, enterprise-wide search tool, the IDA is also expected to deliver similar efficiency improvements to AFP non-operational business functions.

IDA will deliver a robust, user-friendly, corporate capability to conduct federated searches across an initial set of AFP data sources, subject to AFP authentication and access controls, with the ability to access more AFP data sources with minimal development and/or customisation.

Through the planned RFT, the AFP will seek a suitably qualified and experienced service provider to deliver the required IDA capability. The AFP’s preference is for a currently implemented, proven solution. The AFP is seeking a solution which requires minimal development and is easily configurable. New, untried and untested solutions, whilst of general interest, are unlikely to meet the AFP’s requirements.

The AFP intends to commence transition to a new solution by Q4 FY18/19.

The AFP will only respond to enquiries made in writing to AFP-RFT@afp.gov.au
