Tender Description
The NMS maintains an onshore reserve of inventory to support the timely supply of medical supplies and essential medical equipment in the event of a significant public health emergency to assist with the implementation of public health objectives. Items are stockpiled to increase Australia’s level of self-sufficiency during a time of potential high global and domestic demand and service delivery pressures.
P2/N95 respirators constitute an integral part of the Stockpile pandemic inventory. The respirators are held in the stockpile for the prevention of exposure to airborne contaminants, such as particles that are small enough to be inhaled, especially particles that are less that 100 microns in size and down to nanometre size.
P2/N95 respirators represent the best form of available protection for health care workers against airborne particles that may contain biological material, such as influenza virus and other pandemic respiratory viruses. The Department also wishes to receive information and samples on surgical masks, with a view to gathering information for any potential further tenders for surgical masks in the future.
