Tender Description
In NSW, peritonectomy with HIPEC is currently provided at St George Hospital in the South Eastern Sydney LHD (SESLHD). The 2014-15 SESLHD Service Agreement provides for 80 peritonectomies. An Enhanced Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) oversees patient selection, based on listing criteria. Peritonectomy is currently routinely provided for pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) (including appendix adenocarcinoma), peritoneal mesothelioma and peritoneal carcinomatosis of colorectal origin.
A number of issues have been identified that will impact on future service delivery of peritonectomy in NSW, including:
* Confirmation of the model of care;
* Patient selection criteria;
* Potential application of peritonectomy for emerging clinical indications;
* Workforce requirements including succession planning and surgical training;
* Growth in demand and estimated future workload; and
* Impacts on related clinical services including theatre, intensive care and rehabilitation and/or palliative care.
