Tender Description
The Community Language Schools Grants Program forms part of Program 2.5 Multicultural and Citizenship, within Outcome 2 of the Department of Home Affairs Portfolio Budget Statement.
This grant opportunity will provide funding to organisations involved in, or supporting, language education to develop initiatives that will help more students, regardless of their background, become fluent in Asian languages through to years 11 and 12.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:
- support Australian secondary students (Years 7 to 12) to build fluency in an Asian language
- enhance Asian cultural and language literacy to take advantage of economic opportunities in Australia’s region
- enable the participation of young Australians in a broader range of jobs in an economy closely integrated into a global market of diverse trading partners.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:
- increase the number of Australian students learning an Asian language through community language school education
- increase the number of Australian students maintaining their Asian language learning during secondary schooling years (years 7 to 12) to build fluency in the Asian language
- build the capability and capacity of community language schools by strengthening their operational structures, so they can support Australian students study an Asian language through to year 12.
Eligible Asian languages and priority Asian languages for this grant opportunity are outlined in Appendix A of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines.
Projects must benefit the wider community language school community or sector.
For this grant opportunity, up to $2.5 million (GST exclusive) of funding is available over 2 years from 2025–26 to 2026–27. A total of up to $1.25 million (GST exclusive) will be available in each of the 2 years.
The minimum grant amount is $60,000. The maximum grant amount is $440,000 depending on the scope of the grant activity and its complexity.
