About City of Sydney:

The City of Sydney is the Local Government Authority for the Sydney central business district (CBD) and surrounding suburbs. It covers an area 26.15km2, serves a population of 208,000 residents and 2.1 million visitors per day. Like all councils, the City has responsibilities under NSW laws including the City of Sydney Act, Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, the Public Health Act and the Companion Animals Act. The vision for the City's LGA is for a Green, Global and Connected city. More details of this vision can be found on City of Sydney website.

Background:

To reduce the direct carbon emissions from gas fired equipment, the City is looking to convert Prince Alfred Park Pool to an all-electric equipment facility. Prince Alfred Park Pool is an outdoor heated 50m pool located in Prince Alfred Park, behind Central Station on Chalmers St in Sydney CBD. This project aims to replace aged plant with modern efficient and reliable plant that will provide high service levels while also contributing to the City's emission reduction goals.

This initiative, in addition to replacing end of life equipment, fits into the Sustainable Sydney 2030-2050 Community Strategic Plan (Plan). It builds towards the implementation of our renewed vision for the city over the next three decades.

This project enables Direction 2 in the Plan, to become a leading environmental performer - Our city is part of a decarbonised world. Our communities live in a city that is regenerative and makes a positive contribution to the planet, to society and to individual lives.

This project aligns with the City's Environmental Strategy 2025-2030 which outlines a target to remove all fossil gas (natural gas) used in operations by 2030. Further information can be found on City of Sydney website.

Project Overview:

1. Eliminate 100% of the site's natural gas use including:
