Tender Description
Junior ranger activities will support primary and secondary students to engage with their schooling through a combination of classroom and on-Country learning. NIAA is undertaking a targeted competitive grant opportunity in priority locations, to select new providers in every state and territory. Initial funding agreements will be for up to 2.5 years and may be extended.
Applications are limited to proposed service delivery in the following locations in each state and territory:
• ACT-Canberra-North,Canberra-South, Stromlo–Namadgi
• NSW-Lake Macquarie, Wyong, Wollongong
• NT-Alice Springs, Alice Springs Town Camps, Douglas-Daly, Palmerston
• Queensland-Ipswich, Logan, Thuringowa, Townsville
• SA-Playford, Port Adelaide-Enfield, Salisbury
• Tasmania-Central Coast-Devonport, Launceston
• Victoria-Campaspe-Shepparton-Moira, Northcote-Preston-Whittlesea, Geelong-Queenscliff, Castlemaine–Kerang
• WA-Swan, Geraldton, Port Hedland.
These are Indigenous Areas (IAREs) outside the current junior ranger footprint which have high numbers of First Nations youth who are not engaged in employment, education or training compared with other IAREs in their respective jurisdictions.
Preference will be given to local First Nations providers, including Indigenous Ranger Groups or First Nations providers with relationships with Indigenous Ranger Groups, where relevant. Applicants should also demonstrate support from Traditional Owners and partner schools to deliver activities.
Funded activities should boost school engagement and support participating students to complete their schooling. Projects can include (but not limited to) school-based activities (as well as camps, excursions and field trips) involving land, sea, and natural resource management, environmental data collection, heritage related projects and cultural studies. Projects can also support students to gain relevant VET qualifications.
