Our health is closely linked to the places where we live, learn, work and play. The Healthy Lifestyle Grants are an opportunity to strengthen the health of our communities by improving the health of the places where we spend our time – our communities, schools, workplaces, child-care services, community facilities and more.
The Healthy Lifestyle Grants support local governments councils, ACCHOs and non-government organizations in the NT to start, continue or expand initiatives that help keep people healthy and well. This includes initiatives that increase availability of healthy food and drink, reduce availability of unhealthy food and drink, improve food security, and boost everyday physical activity.
Priority funding areas
NT Health invites local governments, ACCHOs and non-government organizations in the NT to apply for grants for locally led initiatives that support healthy lifestyles through creating environments and settings that support good health.
Funding of $10,000 - $35,000 is available for initiatives that address one or more of the following objectives:
- Increase access and promotion of healthy food and drinks.
- Reduce access and promotion of unhealthy food and drinks
- Increase food security
- Increase opportunities for active living and physical activity
- Support behaviour change to reduce the risk of chronic conditions
- Create partnerships to support local health and wellbeing.
Applicants must demonstrate their initiative is able to meet one or more of these objectives and address an identified need in their workplace community or region. Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate collaboration and partnership across organizations and or proposals that can demonstrate plans to sustain the project goals after the project has been implemented.
Priority populations
Your initiative should aim to improve health outcomes in one or more of the following priority population groups:
- People from lower socioeconomic groups
- Aboriginal people and communities
- People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Children and young people.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for funding, organizations need to be located and operating in the Northern Territory. Only not-for-profit organizations are eligible. Organizations also need to meet one of the following:
- Incorporated under and compliant with the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act (Commonwealth)
- Incorporated under and compliant with the Associations Act 2003 (NT)
- A recognized local governing body established under the Local Government Act (NT)
Who cannot apply?
- Individuals
- Tertiary education institutions, schools, school councils, student groups
- NT Government agencies
- Commonwealth government agencies
- Political organisations
- For profit groups / commercial organisations
- Organizations with outstanding NT Government grant acquittals
- Organizations that are not based in the NT
While these organizations can not apply for a grant, some may be suitable partners in delivering the proposed initiative. It is recommended that applicants explore opportunities to partner with government and non-government organizations in developing their proposal.
What will be funded?
- Initiatives delivered within the Northern Territory
- Initiatives that increase access to healthy food and drinks and limit access to, or remove, unhealthy food and drinks
- Create or support a health enabling environment in places people spend their time e.g. workplaces childcare centres, school shops, parks, food outlets, community centres, leisure centres and sporting clubs
- Initiatives that partner with local businesses or community groups to build healthier communities
- Initiatives that consider and reach priority populations
- Initiatives that strengthen food security
- Initiatives that promote or enable active living, increase physical activity or reduce sedentary activity
- Initiatives that demonstrate partnerships across organizations.
What will not be funded?
- Activities or events outside of the Northern Territory
- International or interstate travel
- Fundraising activities
- Recruitment agency fees
- Projects that have already occurred, or costs that have already been incurred
- Personal sports equipment or uniforms
- Ongoing maintenance costs
- Projects receiving funding elsewhere
- Vehicles (including lease or purchase)
- Projects involving food and drink provision inconsistent with the Australian Dietary Guidelines
- Events or activities that involve, or promote, alcohol consumption
