The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is seeking to provide an updated facility that enables athletes to sleep and relax at altitude while training at sea level. The facility, which simulates high altitudes will be located in the existing residential accommodation, the Residence of Champions building (B35) at the AIS campus in Bruce. The ASC is seeking to engage a Managing Contractor to provide design and construction services, staging and logistics services to facilitate the project outcomes.
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is seeking to provide an updated facility that enables athletes to sleep and relax at altitude while training at sea level. The facility, which simulates high altitudes will be located in existing residential accommodation, in the two lower levels of Block E, Residence of Champions at the AIS campus in Bruce.
Works will include: the provision of a hypoxic system to simulate high altitudes in four accommodations ‘pods’ which comprise the altitude facility; air conditioning; an additional lift to improve accessibility; and other ancillary works. The key project objectives are:
- a world class accessible facility for use by para and able-bodied high-performance athletes visiting the AIS campus
- best value for money for the ASC
- delivery of services on time and budget
- economical whole of life cost
- achievement of functional requirements of the AIS Performance team and other relevant stakeholders
- compliance with codes and authority requirements.
The project is seeking to commence design documentation in early 2024 with a target construction completion date of December 2024.
