Summary
Australia Awards – Africa (the Program) is seeking organisations with the skills and experience to deliver a cost-effective short course training program for up to 25 participants.
The Short Course Mining Governance in Africa will provide an opportunity for senior mid-career officials from Mining Ministries in priority African countries to undertake a professional development short course to strengthen governance and management of the resources sector.
The purpose of the course is to contribute to improved governance in the African mining sector in partner countries. To achieve this, the course will focus on:
- enhancing participants’ capacity to contribute to policy development and delivery of effective and inclusive governance in their respective mining sectors
- assisting participants to broaden and deepen their professional networks, both within Africa and Australia; and
- laying a foundation for long-term cooperation in the mining sector between African partner countries and Australia.
Specific objectives are:
- To ensure participants are informed of global trends in the mining sector and the implications for African countries (e.g., rising demand for strategic and critical minerals, changing patterns of investment, increased scrutiny of minerals supply chains).
- To identify governance challenges faced by mining regulators and policymakers in Africa, Australia and elsewhere, and share knowledge about how these challenges can be, or are being addressed.
- To enhance participants’ knowledge of key principles and frameworks relevant to the governance of resource developments, particularly in the African context.
- To deepen participants’ understanding of the roles of different stakeholders in mining-related governance processes.
- To assist participants to develop and implement more effective and inclusive mining governance processes in their own countries.
