Tender Description
MLA is seeking applications for RD&A projects focused on improving beef herd productivity and efficiency of Southern Beef systems. Southern Beef is broadly categorised as Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales and as far north in Western Australia as the Southern Rangelands (includes southern Northern Territory, southwestern Queensland, and semi-arid environments). Integrated innovative approaches and utilisation of existing technology to address core productivity issues are encouraged. Previous situational analysis for Southern systems (Holmes and Hackett 2017) indicate that optimal feed utilisation remains a constraint to southern beef production. A key focus of any work will be to target adoption opportunities that result in measurable increases for productivity (kg beef/ha), profitability and sustainability. Projects can focus on any life stage of the grassfed beef animal.
MLA is currently investing in the adoption of emerging research, related technologies, and practices. Emphasis is on using the scope of this Terms of Reference to provide updated materials, modules and adoption pathways for the More Beef from Pastures package but also include e-Learning modules, EDGE training programs, Producer Demonstration Sites (PDS), Profitable Grazing Systems (PGS) and the short course BredWell FedWell.
This Terms of Reference addresses a need for an integrated research and adoption approach. Projects that show engagement and consultation with producers will be favourably assessed. MLA Donor Company (MDC) projects are encouraged and will be viewed favourably. Applications from early career researchers and advisors are encouraged.

MLA invites interested parties to submit preliminary proposals that must be received by MLA before the 24rd of July. Late proposals will not be accepted.
