The Pyalong Kindergarten and MCH facility is located in the rural township of Pyalong, approximately 24 kms North-West of Kilmore via the Northern Highway.
This aging facility needs upgrading to meet regulatory and contemporary expectations for early learning environments. At present, community access is in breach of regulations, with gated access via the registered outdoor play-space. The dated kitchen and toilet facilities do not meet OH&S and accessibility standards, and children are required to store their bags in the toilet area. No washing/ drying facilities and a small fold-down wall change table inadequately support the increasing number of 3yo children attending wearing nappies and pose OH&S risks for both staff and children. Meanwhile, the current placement and alignment of doors and windows is impeding staff supervision and seamless child movement across all site areas. Internal flooring, walls, trimmings and fixtures are all in need of refurbishment.
This project will create a revitalized, inviting, inclusive and safe early learning environment in Pyalong. Whist indicative designs have been developed, the extension and reconfiguration of the building is not finalised, and further consideration may be required after additional stakeholder consultation.
Due to the kindergarten facility requiring to remain operational, it is a requirement that these works are undertaken on Victorian School holiday breaks is feasible.
