Tender Description
Expressions of interest are open for 2 vacant positions on the Advanced Training Committee (ATC) in Geriatric Medicine.
There are currently 2 vacancies for Geriatricians with FRACP, ideally one from Queensland (QLD).
The ATC oversees Advanced Training in Geriatric Medicine in Australia.
The key responsibilities of the ATC are to:
- monitor and assess individual trainee progress in Geriatric Medicine
- confirm completion of training requirements to progress to Fellowship
- monitor training of, and provide support to, supervisors in Geriatric Medicine
- accredit Advanced Training sites or programs in Geriatric Medicine
- assess recognition of prior learning
- monitor and review training program requirements, assessment, and curricula in Geriatric Medicine in consultation with the relevant Specialty Society(ies) and other stakeholders, and recommend changes to the College Education Committee, via the Adult Medicine Division Education Committee
- advise on assessment and resource content
- advise on matters relating to Overseas Trained Physicians, as requested
- provide advice on specialty specific CPD and other educational resources for members, as appropriate
- modify training requirements for individual trainees, as appropriate, in accordance with College policies and procedures
- assess and provide advice on specialist recognition in Geriatric Medicine for Fellows in the Adult Medicine Division who have not completed the Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training program
The ATC’s selection criteria includes:
- Fellowship of RACP
- one of 2 vacancies, ideally from QLD
- high credibility as a physician in Geriatric Medicine
- experience as a supervisor of Advanced Trainees, including project supervision
- membership of GMET
- commitment to the promotion of high quality of advanced training and consistent standards throughout Australia and New Zealand
- experience on the project markers panel would be a desirable characteristic
Would suit a Geriatrician who:
- has a minimum amount of 3 years spent as a consultant
- is committed to attend the required ATC meetings
- has Managerial/leadership skills
- can effectively allow for time commitments, multiple responsibilities, and workloads of an ATC member
The ATC holds 1 face-to-face meeting in Sydney and 5 video conferences a year.
Members are additionally expected to commit to:
- Advanced Trainee project marking
- Site Accreditation
