Tender Description
Sovereign Hill is in an exciting phase of rapid transformational change as it delivers its bold new Master Plan. This Master Plan delivers a number of staged projects. Refurbishment of two parts of the iconic Gold Panning precinct, referred to as the 'Diggings' and the 'Chinese Protectorate Camp', is now open for tender. This is a high profile project demonstrating historic hand built construction methodologies with hidden contemporary standards.
DIGGINGS AND CHINESE PROTECTORATE CAMP upgrade works will:
1. provide enhanced visitor experiences which acknowledge Sovereign Hill's essence, supports core experiences and connect with new facilities
2. retain and support a sustainable immersive Living Museum environment based on responsible interpretation and layered, sensory engagement and interactions
3. use construction details and techniques which reference 19th century construction within a 21st century environment
4. provide fit for purpose design solutions that enable a practical build, improved maintainability and longevity of the assets.
Underlying this work is the premise that the works will retain a 19th century, hand built aesthetic while, as far as possible, using 21st century construction techniques and materials to meet safety, accessibility and durability standards and expectations.
This project delivers a new approach to some pre-existing assets.
