Mandatory; pre-tender meeting: A mandatory pre-tender meeting will be held on site on Wednesday 15th June 2022 at 10am sharp from a meeting point at the corner of Oakey Creek Road and Marrowbone Road. Instructions on proceeding to the site will be provided at the meeting point. All persons attending the site inspection are to wear appropriate PPE.

The Tenderers may access the location for tendering purposes but must not enter private property.

It is requested that Tenderers ensure that left turns into intersections off Oakey Creek Road are taken for safety purposes in preference to entering these intersections via right hand turns as Oakey Creek Road has narrow, single lanes each way, limited road shoulder widths in sections and is an 80 km/hr zone

The scope of the work comprises construction for the upgrade of a section of Oakey Creek Road, Pokolbin, NSW between Marrowbone Road (western end) and O’Connors Road (eastern end) to improve safety with road shoulders, batter grade reduction, barrier installations, signage and sections of pavement reconstruction.

The work is being tendered for a 1,070 metre section of the road, Chainage 1200 to Chainage 2270.

The work can be summarised into the following main areas for the deliverables:

1. Site clearing and grubbing;

2. Earthworks;

3. Drainage works, installation of extensions for box culverts and pipes plus headwalls (including removal of existing structures where applicable) and

erosion control;

4. Concrete works including drainage structures (box culverts), base, walls, top, headwalls

5. Survey set-out for the works;

6. Road pavements, dish drains and driveway interfaces;

7. Guardrail and wire rope installation;

8. Signage installation;

9. Audio tactile thermoplastic line installation for the edge line and centre lines for the designed section of road.

10. Marker posts and retro-reflective pavement marker installations;

11. Site remediation.

Oakey Creek Road is a main access route between Cessnock and the wineries in the Mount View and Central Pokolbin vineyards area. The road is used extensively by tourist traffic, commuters travelling to the upper Hunter and by heavy vehicles carrying freight for the local viticulture industry. The area has experienced a substantial uptake in recent years in recreational use including motorcycling and bicycling.

The nature of the road presents particular hazards for all road users particularly at night with narrow road shoulders and vegetation within the clear zone or hazard corridor alignment.
