Yarra Valley Water’s (YVW) Community Sewerage Programs (CSP) Team are currently delivering another much-needed addition to our sewerage system, through the construction of a series of new reticulation mains in Park Orchards. To accommodate the mildly undulating terrain of this area, a hybrid network comprising of both gravity and pressure sewer assets is necessary to maintain an effective operational network.
It has been determined that additional measures are required to prevent increased ongoing maintenance costs to concrete structures through Cured In Place Lining. Without implementing corrosion protection measures, the higher levels of Hydrogen Sulphide would otherwise reduce the expected serviceability period of these structures and require maintenance at more frequent intervals.
The current Project in construction is known as Stage 2 and is nearing completion. It on builds on the previously constructed network in the area known as Stage 1. The works set out in this document requires 13 concrete maintenance holes (MHs) from the Stage 1 Project to be retrofitted with a cured in place liner as these were not protected at construction in 2019.
A number of the 13 concrete maintenance holes are located within private property and the works undertaken in Stage 2 have modified some of these existing structures to provide property connections to customers along the Stage 1 sewer alignment. The Works will therefore be required to occur on under live sewer conditions with removal and reinstatement of ladders and drops with all considerations made to ensure there are no customer disruptions.
