Tender Description
Mount Alexander Shire Council is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and innovative contractor to carry out the landscaping aspects of the Norwood Hill Reserve redevelopment.
District level play spaces that attract visits from across a number of local neighbourhood’s and provide for both younger and older children. This level play space is relevant to Castlemaine and towns/rural areas.
District level play spaces are designed to include:
- focus on play opportunities for younger children but provide some opportunities for older children
- are within one kilometre of most households in residential areas and may be considered for sites in some towns
- are on a site that is between 0.5 to 2.0 hectares in size12
- will have play equipment, open run about areas and may have other play spaces such as bounce-ball areas (will be a part of stage two redevelopment)
- will have seating, natural shade and natural landscape features suitable for play
- opportunities for children with additional needs
- will have social and picnic features such as picnic tables
- will have on-street and may have off-street car parking
- might have built shade structures
- might have artistic/creative/heritage/cultural features e.g. carved animals,
- mosaics integrated into pathways or feature walls

Stage one of the redevelopment of the reserve will incorporate the following key elements;
- Removing of existing park items as specified.
- Reshaping and levelling of the site with the addition of drainage.
- The set out and constructions of new foot paths.
- Garden bed preparation and planting of a mix of small plants to mature trees.
- Set out of play equipment area with suitable fall zones for play equipment selected.
- Installations of landscaping rocks and logs as per design.
- Make good works for turf surrounds.
- Maintenance period of 12 months for all new plantings.
The design of the reserve should consult the concept plans for the redevelopment (appendix 1).
Norwood Hill Recreation Reserve Redevelopment will be upgrading the playground to meet the “District Level” standards as outlined in Council’s Investing in Play Strategy 2014–2024.
Norwood Hill Recreation Reserve is located in Maclise Street, Castlemaine. The area includes a number of passive and active recreational elements including a district level playground, netball courts, BBQ shelter and a cricket practice net and public toilet. A rear access gate to the Castlemaine South kindergarten is located in the park’s south-west corner.
