The Specified Personnel will be responsible for providing the following deliverables including but not limited to:
• Providing solution designs and input into future database architectural directions and consolidation of infrastructure, high availability and DR solutions;
• Undertaking database administration, including monitoring system performance and ensuring successful backups;
• Creating, maintaining and managing databases with respect to security, backup/recovery and monitoring;
• Ensuring databases and systems are available and reliable so they meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs);
• Developing, documenting and maintaining database housekeeping scripts;
• Resolving issues and problems related to the databases such as performance tuning, backup and recovery and setting up the database environments for System Development Life Cycle (SDLC);
• Analysing, testing and promoting changes to the environments following the SDLC;
• Installing, configuring, migrating, upgrading and testing software, patches and tools;
• Liaising with system administrators, ESPs, Department internal support teams, developers and vendors to resolve database issues and problems;
• Providing specialist technical advice to users and assisting the developers in optimising the database and SQL statements to maintain acceptable database performance;
• Researching new database features and technologies to enhance business processes;
• Monitoring, reporting and planning database capacity;
• Establishing documented standards and best practices for database administration;
• Be a part of the 24x7 support team. Providing out of hours support, including a requirement to be on call, on a rostered basis. This entails:
> Specified Personnel to be available, and in the ‘required state of readiness’ to perform extra duty outside of standard business hours;
> The ‘required state of readiness’ includes the requirement for Specified Personnel to:
- physically attend on site within 30 minutes of notification of requirement to attend or as directed by Director, Maritime & Geospatial Systems (MGS)
- maintain compliance with the Department’s Professional Standards and Integrity Framework, which includes but is not limited to, ensuring Services are not performed whilst impaired by any legal or illegal drugs or alcohol.
> Specified Personnel will be provided with a mobile telephone while on call;
• Developing positive team ethos within the immediate workgroup through positive participation and communication;
• Developing and maintaining strong effective working relationships with key management personnel and internal client base.
Specified Personnel will be expected to transfer skills and knowledge to departmental staff and ensure appropriate documentation is stored in accordance with the Department’s recordkeeping policy and practices.
The Specified Personnel will also be responsible for producing the following deliverables, including but not limited to:
• Technical Specifications;
• Technical design and matrix;
• Basic Architectural documents;
• System Design Specifications;
• Technical Implementation Documentation;
• Deployment Plan Documentation;
• Database Design;
• Development effort estimates;
• Work flows, events and sequence diagrams;
• UML (Universal Mark-Up Language) charts;
• Environment Context Definitions;
• Deployment plans.
