The main objectives of the WB Messer Significant Refurbishment Project are to help resolve two main factors:
Dementia Friendly outdoor spaces:
WB Messer has significant outdoor spaces that are currently under-utilised. Ballarat Health Services proposes to create a modern, dementia-friendly sensory / activity garden, to promote safety, well-being, and independence. The gardens and grounds will be remodelled and secured in a dementia friendly manner to include destination points, and rest places with seating options and an entertainment hub for families and friends to enjoy.
The garden and outdoor alfresco will house events and family functions to generate a sense of community for residents and their families. It will add additional access and independence to residents living with cognitive impairment who will be able to freely access the outdoors.
Recreation and Leisure:
The recreation and entertainment space will be significantly improved, further promoting greater socialisation for residents; a key factor in the provision of quality residential aged care. The improved area includes doors that egress out to a remodelled garden and grounds to address wellbeing and a sense of community. The area will enable families to visit in comfort and will provide a place of meaning and relaxation.
