Tender Description
The Committee advises Council on its delivery of family and children’s services across the municipality.
Scope
The City of Melbourne Family and Children’s Advisory Committee brings together people with broad and diverse knowledge and experience of issues relating to families and children. The Committee is an important point of contact between Council and families with children from birth to 12 years.
The purpose of the FCAC is to provide Council with advice on family and child related issues that can be dealt with at a Council level.
Committee objectives
- provide advice on issues relevant to the implementation of our policies and plans relating to children and families
- provide comment on relevant City of Melbourne policies and strategies
- advocate community views on families and children
- provide recommendations on methods and techniques to better inform and engage the community on family and children’s issues
- provide strategic, expert and impartial advice to Council on policies, strategies and plans to advance children and family services
- undertake a consultative role on family and child-related issues across City of Melbourne functions and services.
Members
The Committee includes eleven community representatives with personal and/or professional experience and expertise in family and children’s issues. The Committee operates on a voluntary basis.
Committee membership is sought by an Expression of Interest process on the basis of achieving representation aligned with the key themes of the Melbourne for All People Strategy 2014-17, which rests on the following six key principles:
- connection
- access and inclusion
- safety
- health and wellbeing
- lifelong learning
- having a voice.
Meetings
Meetings are held on a quarterly basis. Working groups and sub committees are established as required.
