Tender Description

This project led by Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance will undertake a structured national assessment of the food manufacturing sector, examining its current footprint, capacity, and capability. This includes identifying major areas of activity, strengths, emerging pressures, and the broader factors influencing the sector’s ability to support long-term food security. The analysis will also consider projected changes out to 2050, using available demographic, environmental, and supply chain insights to understand future demand signals.

A key focus of the project will be identifying where capability gaps may emerge and how technology, workforce skills, innovation, and supply chain developments may shape the sector’s future needs. This includes exploring where the skills and training system may contribute to capability development, without assuming that training interventions are the sole or primary solution.

The project will bring together existing research supplied by the ABS - this part of the project is due for completion early June and will be made available to the preferred supplier- industry insights, and emerging national priorities to provide a clear, evidence-based picture of the current and future capability landscape. The findings will support government, industry, and stakeholders by improving national visibility, informing future planning, and laying the groundwork for subsequent targeted initiatives across the food manufacturing sector.
