The West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) is seeking proposals from suitably qualified consultants to review and update environmental flows recommendations and shortfalls for specified reaches in the Thomson system. Outputs from this review will be used to inform both short and long-term environmental water management (e.g. the development of seasonal watering proposals and environmental water management plans), and to inform future water allocation and management decisions, including the development of the Southern sustainable water strategy scheduled to commence in early 2020.
The aim of this study is to incorporate the best available scientific, Traditional Owner (TO) and other local knowledge of the Thomson River to identify environmental values and devise flow recommendations to complement these values. The updated FLOWS study should also reflect, consider and be inclusive of the influence of improved works and management/operating plans on flow delivery where appropriate throughout the study. It should also be consistent with the FLOWS 2 method and include any necessary variations and additions as required.
