Development, Delivery and Assessment of a Contemporary Written Selection Test for Victorian Fire Services Recruit Firefighters

⁠⁠⁠MFB and CFA have operated a joint professional career firefighter recruitment process since 2018.

Becoming a professional career firefighter in Victoria is a popular career option and each recruitment campaign attracts thousands of applicants. CFA and MFB are seeking expressions of interest for the development and delivery of a Written Selection Test which forms part of the recruit selection process for candidates applying to become professional career firefighters.

Overall the aim of the recruit selection process is to enable the best candidates to be recruited by ensuring candidates:
* comply with the minimum entry requirements including Criminal History and Driver History policies
* are medically and psychologically assessed as being capable to undertake the role
* have the physical capabilities to undertake the role
* have appropriate skills including communication and teamwork skills required in the role.

MFB and CFA are also aiming to attract more female candidates and candidates with a diverse range of backgrounds and life experiences. A key consideration in contemporising the recruitment process is to ensure that the recruit selection process is fair and equitable for all candidates including women and those from diverse backgrounds. Diverse backgrounds and life experiences include gender/ gender identification, ethnicity, religion, language, sexual orientation, economic status, family status, marital status, education, work experience and age.

The CFA and MFB are looking for a supplier to provide a contemporary written test that reflects the skills and aptitude associated with the role of a professional career firefighter. This test does not need to use the same components as the current written selection test (WST) however must align with the requirements of the firefighter position description. The CFA and MFB plan to recruit heavily over the next few years and as such will require the WST to be conducted at least once per year.
