The Suicide Prevention Community Gatekeeper Training initiative will deliver gatekeeper training to communities around NSW. Individuals within the community who may come into contact with people at risk of suicide, also known as ‘gatekeepers’, has been shown to be a promising suicide prevention strategy. Gatekeeper training will provide suicide prevention skills to community gatekeepers who may come into contact with people in suicidal crisis to engage, support and refer them to appropriate services.
This initiative is available to local community groups, community managed organisations, government and non-government organisations and the private sector. Funding will also be provided for these communities to hold accompanying suicide awareness activities to support and promote the community gatekeepers, and integrate this initiative into broader suicide prevention strategies in the community.
