The Walker Street car park is a multi-deck, reinforced concrete purpose-built car park, constructed in the late 1980’s. Walker Street car park has eight (8) car parking decks and roof deck parking. The car park is a public car park that operates from 6.30am and closes at 7.30pm on weekdays, Saturdays 7.30am to 5.00pm and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

The scope of this project involves the construction of tensile wire barriers to the lower and upper roof decks of the car park as a safety / preventative measure to prevent falls or jumpers from the roof of the car park. Therefore that tensile wire barrier must comply, in every respect, with AS1926.1 - Safety Barriers for Swimming Pools. This standard sets out requirements for non-climbable barriers. The final solution shall also be compliant with the National Construction Code, Volume 1:2016 and AS1170.1 – Structural Design Actions. Refer to architectural drawing A800 for the applicable codes and standards that must be complied with as part of the contractors design, as well as, minimum performance requirements. The quality and performance of the tensile wire barriers shall be equal of greater than the solution adopted at Thomas Street Car park. A site inspection of the roof of this car park can be arranged via the council Project Manager (nominated below).

This is a Design and Construct (D&C) project that requires the Contractor to fully design and certify the tensile wire barriers against AS1170.1 (must resist body impact), NCC 2016 and any / all other applicable standards. The responsibility for the design and compliance with the design intent as outlined above is the sole responsibility of the Contractor. After design and certification, the Contractor shall produce detailed shop drawings for review by the Principal/Architect. Upon approval, the Contractor shall supply, install and commission the works as part of their contract.
