Tender Description
The project will consist of a four-leg signalised intersection on the existing roundabout of Taylors Road and Westwood Drive, as well as two pedestrian signals approximately 500m of either side of this intersection.
Taylors Road and Westwood Drive intersection operates reasonably well in its current form as a roundabout but Council have had numerous complaints from residents trying to cross the road on foot. The adjacent Watervale Shopping Centre exacerbates this, due to being an attractor for pedestrians. Providing improved pedestrian connections is therefore a key deliverable of this project in addition to a functioning signalised intersection.
Westwood Drive will be connected to the Western Highway at the end of this year once construction to complete a bridge connection over Kororoit Creek is completed. This will increase the volumes on Westwood Drive significantly and must be incorporated into the Sidra analysis.
The signalised intersection intends to manage the predicted traffic flow with the development of the surrounding suburbs and better enable pedestrian connections to the Watervale Shopping Centre, and the pedestrian signals will improve pedestrian safety across Taylors Road.
