beyondblue has implemented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander projects since its inception, with an early success being a partnership project between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health workers and General Practitioners in remote communities in the Northern Territory. Other key initiatives include video stories with communities, including the Bangarra Dance Theater, the Stop.Think.Respect Invisible Discriminator racism reduction campaign, and the Proppa Deadly radio stories project in partnership with Brisbane Indigenous Media Association.
beyondblue takes a long-term strategic community-change view of its’ work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, focused on reducing discriminatory attitudes and behaviors, building inclusive, supportive and culturally appropriate environments, and collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, services, stakeholders and partners to ensure our generalist resources and programs meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Significant current projects include the implementation of the beyondblue Reconciliation Action Plan 2017 - 2019, the development of a culture and identity research project to support protective factors for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and specific suicide prevention activities.
