The aim of this procurement is to establish new supply arrangements for supply of RCDP to replace the current contracts which expire on 30 June 2016.
The standing offer arrangement currently lists 152 in vitro RCDP, which are used in laboratory tests known as blood typing and cross matching.
These tests ensure that a person, who needs a blood transfusion, receives blood that is compatible with their own. The nine categories of products covered in the procurement are specified in the National Product and Services List approved by Ministers under the National Blood Agreement. The tests are also used for the purpose of typing a donor’s blood in the blood collection process.
For the purposes of this process, RCDP are reagent red blood cell products defined as in vitro diagnostic reagents whose primary use is for the purpose of Immunohaematology testing of patient samples and donor blood. They are used for direct sample testing, test validation and the control of Immunohaematology tests. They are liquid suspensions of living, human red blood cells, in which fresh or frozen red cells may be used.
