Overview
The Department of Tourism & Hospitality (NT) is promoting The Next Brilliant Career, an initiative inviting emerging Australian writers who identify as women or non-binary to submit an original concept for the opportunity to pitch their work to Netflix and receive structured feedback in developing the story for screen.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older at the time of application
- Be an Australian resident and a resident of the Northern Territory per Screen Territory's Terms of Trade
- Identify as a woman or non-binary
- Hold at least one, and no more than three, reportable writer credits on a commercially released short film, film, or television series that has screened at a recognised film festival and/or been supported by a state or federal screen agency
Full-time students are not eligible.
Only one application is permitted per person; group applications are not accepted.
What counts as a "reportable writer credit"?
A writer credit on a commercially released short film, film, or television series longer than 10 minutes that has either screened at a recognised film festival, or been supported by a state or federal screen agency. Between one and three such credits are required to be eligible.
How to Apply
- Application period: 4 August 2026 to 18 August 2026, 23:55 hours (ACST)
Applicants will not be able to resubmit their application if an error is made, so care should be taken before submitting.
Only successful applicants will receive further correspondence once the application window closes. A representative from Netflix will contact successful applicants via the phone and/or email address provided in the application on 28 September 2026. Applicants who do not hear back by this date will not be progressing in the program.
