Tender Description

Port of Townsville Limited (the Principal) is a Queensland Government Owned Corporation (GOC) established under the Government Owned Corporations Act 1993 (Qld). It is the declared port authority for the Port of Townsville and Port of Lucinda under the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 (Qld).

The Port of Townsville is located approximately three kilometres east of the Townsville city centre on Cleveland Bay, within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. For over 160 years, the Port of Townsville has supported growth, regional connectivity, and industrial development across North Queensland.

Annually, more than $12 billion in trade flows through its ports, supporting over 800,000 people across a catchment area extending from Hinchinbrook to the Burdekin and west to Mount Isa. The products handled—grown, mined, manufactured, and consumed across the region—connect communities to essential goods and enable global exports.

As Northern Australia's most diverse and strategic trade gateway, the Port of Townsville is central to supply chains that drive the State's economy. Each year, the Port of Townsville handles around 7 million tonnes of goods, linking customers to more than 130 ports across 44 countries, with more than 75% of trade occurring with South East Asia.

The Port of Townsville is Australia's largest exporter of copper, zinc, lead, sugar, fertiliser and molasses, and the nation's leading northern port for containerised cargo and motor vehicles. With established road and rail connections to the Northwest Minerals Province, the Port of Townsville is positioned as a critical hub for global demand for critical and strategic minerals, renewable energy and fuels and agriculture. It also plays a pivotal role in national defence logistics and has a modern cruise terminal providing a gateway to North Queensland's unique tourism experiences.

This project encompasses a critical road infrastructure upgrade program within the Port of Townsville operational area:

  • Swept Path Assurance: Infrastructure modifications to enable safe transport of oversized cargo (wind turbine components) from Berths 3 and 4 to the newly constructed Designated Laydown Area (DLA).

SCOPE:

- Pavement widening and extensions

- Road lighting relocation and installation

- Fence modification and gate works

- Security camera installation

- Drainage modifications

- Landscaping and erosion protection

- Comprehensive infrastructure modifications to facilitate oversized vehicle swept paths
