Tender Description
1 ABOUT THE PORT OF TOWNSVILLE
Port of Townsville Limited (the Principal) is a Queensland Government Owned Corporation and the declared port authority for the Ports of Townsville and Lucinda. It manages and develops port infrastructure to support trade, defence, tourism and regional industry across North Queensland. The Port of Townsville handles around 7 million tonnes of cargo annually and connects customers to global markets via established road, rail and shipping links. It is Australia’s largest exporter of several key commodities (including copper, zinc, lead, sugar, fertiliser and molasses) and is the leading northern port for containerised cargo and motor vehicles.
2 OVERVIEW
The Centenary Loop North Empty Container Area (Site) is an approximately 20,000 m² unsealed area used as an empty container storage area under a daily hire arrangement. Heavy vehicles, including road trains, MAFI trucks, reach stackers and forklifts, access and operate within the site to drop off, pick up and handle empty containers. The existing unsealed surface generates significant dust plumes under traffic, particularly during dry and windy conditions, and requires frequent water cart operations on the site and adjacent roads, with associated ongoing operational cost. Over time, heavy vehicle traffic has also caused rutting, potholes and depressions, resulting in sediment laden runoff and water ponding after rainfall and associated safety risks. The Principal intends to engage a Contractor under a Design and Construct (D&C) AS4902-2000 contract to remediate the pavement and surfacing to address dust generation, improve drainage and surface condition, and provide a functional empty container storage facility in accordance with this Scope of Work.
