Council seeks to commission remediation works at a former landfill site located at 584 Middle Hilgay Road, Coleraine, Victoria. The site is estimated to have operated from the 1940s to the mid-1980s and was capped around the time it ceased operation.
The former Coleraine landfill was operationally closed in mid 1980’s and nominally rehabilitated in accordance with the requirements at the time. Since that time it has become evident that the capping was insufficient to effectively prevent the exposure of waste material. It should be noted that this site was not a registered operating landfill with EPA, however Council has committed to ensure an effective cover is established to prevent waste contamination of the waterways and surrounds.
