Breakaway Bridge Acheron - Replacement - Design and Construct - 2025-2027

Murrindindi Shire Council is seeking suitably qualified contractors to design and construct a replacement bridge for Breakaway Bridge on Breakaway Road in Acheron, over the Goulburn River 1.8 km north of Maroondah Hwy.

Existing structure is approx. 70 m single lane timber and steel construction that was damaged in the 2022 floods, and the northern embankment was eroded back approx. 25 m.

There are four options proposed for the new bridge structure:

• Option 1: Default single lane bridge with signalised traffic, based on provided concept designs
•  Option 2: Default two lane bridge, based on provided concept designs
•  Option 3: Alternative single lane bridge with signalised traffic, with new concept design supplied by the contractor (optional)
•  Option 4: Alternative two lane bridge with signalised traffic, with new concept design supplied by the contractor (optional)

All submission must consider Options 1 and 2. Options 3 and 4 are optional and can be included in the submission if desired.

Both default options are approx. 100 m long, concrete construction. Council also requires concept designs to include a separated pedestrian/cycling space with each option, to be included as a separable portion in the construction at council’s discretion, as described further in the Specification.
