Tender Description
Mansfield Shire Council is seeking to engage the services of an experienced and qualified contractor to construct Mullum Wetland Rejuvenation and drainage upgrade as per design completed by Optimal Stormwater. Situated on the entry to Mansfield Township the Mullum wetlands were established to manage stormwater flows and cleanse water pollutants. Constructed in the 1990s, the wetlands were originally managed by the Friends of the Mullum Wetlands community group. But in recent years Mansfield Shire Council took over responsibility for maintenance and upkeep. As part of that Council completed an upgrade and wetlands rejuvenation design with Optimal Stormwater in 2022 that would improve water flow management, water treatment and general public amenity.
In the 2022/23 Financial Year Council completed stage 1 of the Mullum Wetlands Rejuvenation which included:
- Removal of macrophytes for wetland 1 outlet and inlet 3 creek
- Cast in-situ concrete weir to direct low flows into wetland 1 and removal of vegetation around weir wall
- Installation of a primary sediment sump on inlet 3
The works in stage 1 has dramatically improved flow and water treatment of wetland 1 but there is still some issues and improvements required such as improving visual appeal for visitors. The sedimentation of the wetlands themselves has been called into question after discussions with both the design consultant and Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA).
