Rail Network Renewals - Track Pot Holing

⁠⁠⁠The purpose of potholing works aims to gather data critical for supporting the scope and design development of rail renewal works, ensuring the project reaches necessary stages such as IFT (Issued for Tender) or IFC (Issued for Construction).

Scope will require potholing, or subsurface investigation. As part of this scope, you will need to perform undertrack (below rail) assessments, analysing key factors such as ballast quality, track formation and moisture levels. The work will help minimise risk, streamline project execution and deliver outcome track renewal projects. Data collected includes ballast depth, ballast shoulder width, TOF (Top of Formation) information, and geotechnical formation details.

1) Potholing

• Surveyors to set out proposed pothole locations.
•  Excavation of potholes on the ballast shoulder.
•  Confirm top of formation/top of SBC for survey pickup.
•  Detailed survey pickup of top of rail, sleeper level, and base of ballast.
• Conduct DCP tests and log formation material.
•  Record ballast fouling level and collect samples for lab testing.
•  Reinstatement of excavations with suitable material.
•  Send collected samples for laboratory analysis.
• Collate site photos, field logs, and measurements.

Your EOI response may be referenced or re-used in the next six months if a similar scope of work is required by Rio Tinto.
