The City of Sydney ("the City") invites Tenders for suitably qualified Service Providers to conduct an assessment of the existing gas mitigation systems located at Sydney Park in accordance with this request.

Sydney Park, Alexandria, NSW, is a recreational park occupying an area of approximately 42 hectares. The site was formerly utilised as brickworks and subsequently as a landfill for domestic and commercial waste. As the former landfill operated prior to the implementation of landfill design guidelines and regulations, the landfill is unlined and was capped with unsuitable permeable material, presenting risks associated with landfill gas emissions and leachate.

The site is declared as significantly contaminated by the NSW Environmental Protection Authority in accordance with the Contaminated Land Management Act. A Voluntary Management Proposal (VMP) is currently in place at the site and aims to implement measures to prevent, or reduce as far as possible, the exposure of off-site receptors to methane and carbon dioxide in landfill gas.

A recommendation to assess the existing gas mitigation systems at Sydney Park was made in the Sydney Park Landfill Gas Management Plan (Stantec, 2023) and incorporated into the VMP as a key milestone:

• T4 - Assessment of existing gas mitigation systems along the western boundary of the site and in the northern carpark

This project aims to satisfy this milestone with the assessment completed by 30 September 2025.
