Clinical Excellence Commission seeks expertise to host and manage the NSW Falls Prevention and Healthy Ageing Network.

Project goals

The NSW Fall Prevention Network was established in 1993. The role of this network has grown since its inception and the Network now undertakes dissemination of falls prevention research and best-practice resources, education and networking for a wide-range of professionals and organisations working in falls prevention. In 2020 the NSW Fall Prevention Network became the NSW Fall Prevention and Healthy Ageing Network to reflect the continued work on preventing falls and fall-related injury within the boarder and more holistic scope of healthy ageing.

The NSW Fall Prevention and Healthy Ageing Network’s focus is on the community setting, which compliments the safety and quality work lead by the CEC in reducing patient harm due to an in-hospital fall.

Scope

Core Responsibilities of the Network

The scope of the NSW Fall Prevention and Healthy Ageing Network is to provide support through the following responsibilities and activities:

· Support networking of people and organisations working to prevent falls and harm from falls among older people in NSW (e.g. health professionals, government, community and residential aged care providers, NSW Ambulance, non-government organisations and researchers).

· Support communication and sharing of falls prevention resources and initiatives developed by Network members and exploration of opportunities to undertake collaborative projects and/or combine resources in joint initiatives.

· Support access to and dissemination of information on local and international falls prevention research findings, policy and practice initiatives, tools and resources.

· Ensure the Network remains valued, respected, and responsive to the needs of current and potential members and key stakeholders.

· Promote prevention of falls among older people as a key health issue by supporting active and healthy life styles.
