Tender Description
Expressions of interest are open for an AFOEM representative to join the Community Spirometry Program as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) working group.
The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) is developing evidence-based standards and guidelines tailored specifically for Australian primary care, community, and outreach services.
The TSANZ Board has approved the formation of an SME Working Group to develop these standards and guidelines.
The goal of the program is to improve equitable access to high-quality spirometry services for the screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of relevant respiratory conditions.
We're seeking 1 AFOEM representative with experience in respiratory health and spirometry to join the Working Group.
Outputs to be developed include
- standards for the delivery of spirometry in community settings
- guidelines for the accreditation of spirometry services
- standards for recognising spirometry competency in community-based health workers
- a roadmap towards a National Spirometry Program
The Working Group will
- be comprised of up to 12 people with a diverse professional background, technical expertise, geographical spread, gender, and experience
- be chaired by a TSANZ member highly experienced in spirometry delivery, training, and quality assurance
- report to the TSANZ Board via the relevant subcommittees and be supported by the TSANZ Clinical Quality team
Responsibilities
- prepare for meetings by reviewing circulated documents to ensure informed discussion during meetings.
- meet monthly for a period of 18 months to discuss relevant issues and make decisions needed to progress the development of the outputs.
- guide a scoping and review of existing spirometry practices and the latest evidence, and conduct a GRADE evaluation of the quality of that evidence.
- review existing TSANZ standards for the delivery of spirometry in the resource sector and spirometry training courses, agree on components to carry forward, and identify areas requiring revision or expansion for community settings.
- identify questions and issues that require additional input or technical advice, and engage with the Advisory Panel or peak organisations in their resolution.
- seek and consider advice or questions from stakeholders as needed, and make decisions by quorum on the inclusion of that advice in the process of developing the four deliverables.
- develop evidence-based standards for the delivery of spirometry in community settings, spirometry competency standards, spirometry accreditation guidelines, and a roadmap towards a community spirometry program that aligns with existing competency and accreditation processes in primary care and community settings.
The first meeting of the Working Group will be held on Thursday 28 November 2024, with work to be completed in stages by May 2026.
