Expressions of interest are open for 2 Member positions on the Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP) Assessment Subcommittee, Adult Medicine & Chapters.
Description
Fellows from the Adult Medicine Division and Fellows from the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine, the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine or the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine in Australia are invited to express their interest in joining the Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP) Assessment Subcommittee, Adult Medicine & Chapters.
Applications from the following specialties are encouraged:
- Cardiology
- General Medicine
- Nephrology
- Rheumatology
- Medical Oncology
The OTP Assessment Subcommittee plays a key role in the assessment of OTPs by determining which physicians can work in Australia. Members of the Subcommittee can have a real impact on health service delivery and quality of care in the Australian health system.
Key responsibilities:
- interviewing OTPs to understand their overseas qualifications, training and experience
- determining, and sometimes modifying, requirements for OTPs to reach the level of an Australian trained physician in accordance with guidelines and policies set by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and RACP
- providing expertise relating to OTP assessment to the MBA, College staff and other College Committees (when required)
- monitoring of the OTP's progress through to Fellowship
- advising on key initiatives, projects and educational developments, as requested by the OTP Unit
The Subcommittee meets monthly, up to 12 times per year. Meetings are held via
videoconference with 1 face-to-face meeting per year (usually held in Sydney).
The member will be appointed for an initial 3-year term.
