Expressions of interest are open for the Chair position on the Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP) Assessment Subcommittee, Paediatrics & Faculties.
The Chair provides leadership and expertise in OTP matters in the Division in Australia and chairs the Paediatrics & Faculties OTP Assessment Subcommittee, of which they are a member.
This position will also grant a sitting member role on the OTP Committee, which oversees the OTP assessment subcommittees and is involved with policy and making changes/improvements to guidelines. The Chair will also represent OTP on the Paediatric Division Education Committee (PDEC).
The OTP Assessment Subcommittee plays a key role in the assessment of OTPs by determining which physicians and paediatricians can work in Australia. Members of the Subcommittee can have a real impact on health service delivery and quality of care in the Australian health system.
Key responsibilities:
- interviewing OTPs to understand their overseas qualifications, training and experience
- determining, and sometimes modifying, requirements for OTPs to reach the level of an Australian trained physician or paediatrician in accordance with guidelines and policies set by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and RACP
- providing expertise relating to OTP assessment to the MBA, College staff and other College Committees (when required)
- monitoring of the OTP's progress through to Fellowship
- advising on key initiatives, projects and educational developments, as requested by the OTP Unit
Act as the Chair for an initial 2 or 3-year term. Existing RACP committee members appointed before 2022 follow 2-year terms (max 3 terms, 6 years total). New committee members appointed from 2022 onwards follow 3-year terms (max 2 terms, 6 years total)
The Subcommittee holds 1 face-to-face meetings (usually held in Sydney) and up to 11 videoconferences per year.
