Tender Description

Overview

Singleton Bypass - New England Highway

The Australian Government has invested $560 million and the NSW Government has invested $140 million to build the Singleton Bypass. The bypass will improve travel times, freight efficiency and safety for local and interstate motorists.

The eight-kilometre project will bypass five sets of traffic lights in the CBD and is the largest road infrastructure investment in Singleton's history.

In November 2023, Acciona Construction Australia Pty Ltd (ACCIONA) was awarded a design and construct contract to deliver the Singleton Bypass.

The Singleton Bypass is located to the west of Singleton with connections to the New England Highway to the north and south of Singleton.

ACCIONA will progress site investigations and finalise the detailed design in preparation for the start of major work in third quarter of 2024. The project is expected to open to traffic in late 2026, weather permitting.

The works are located within the Singleton Council LGA which includes the township of Singleton and surrounding suburbs of Gowrie, Singleton Heights, Glenridding, Whittingham and Darlington.

The main features of the project include:

  • About eight kilometres of new highway (the bypass) with a single lane in each direction
  • Connection with the New England Highway at the southern end of the bypass, including a southbound entry ramp and northbound exit ramp
  • A bridge at the southern connection that carries traffic over the northbound exit ramp
  • A long bridge over the Main North railway line, the Doughboy Hollow and Hunter River floodplain, Army Camp Road and Putty Road (bridge over the floodplain)
  • Connection to Putty Road including northbound and southbound entry and exit ramps and a roundabout at Putty road
  • A bridge over the Rose Point floodway and Putty Road connection
  • A bridge over the Hunter River
  • A bridge over the New England Highway west of the existing Main North railway line overbridge at Gowrie
  • Connection with the New England Highway at Gowrie consisting of a southbound entry ramp and northbound exit ramp. The northbound exit ramp would connect to the New England Highway via a new roundabout intersection at Maison Dieu Road
  • A northbound climbing lane between Gowrie and the northern connection
  • Connection at Magpie Street including providing access to the nearby industrial area, consisting of a southbound entry ramp, southbound exit ramp and northbound entry ramp
  • A bridge over the bypass at the northern connection.
