Global review of livestock traceability systems
Tender ID: 553587
Tender Details
Tender Description
The Australian red meat integrity system includes the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS), the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program and the electronic National Vendor Declaration (eNVD). The integrity system combines livestock traceability with on-farm assurance to maintain the integrity and reputation of Australian red meat and underpins our market access by ensuring customer confidence in the red meat products we produce.
Australia positioned itself as a global leader in livestock traceability systems following the introduction of the NLIS in 1999 and launch of the LPA program in 2004. The NLIS database is a vital asset for the red meat industry as a key enabler of red meat traceability, biosecurity and market access. In September 2023, the Australian Government announced a grant to Integrity Systems Company (ISC) to replace and enhance the NLIS database and its supporting systems. Alongside the grant project ISC is wanting to consider the broader global traceability context to better understand innovation in other countries and industries with regard to traceability systems and approaches.
