Tender Description
Summary
The Advanced Training Committee (ATC) in General and Acute Care Medicine (GACM) seeks expressions of interest from General Physician fellows to join the Committee as an Appointed Member.
Description
One of the main roles of the ATC is to monitor and assess individual trainee progress in General and Acute Care Medicine for Australia.
There will be 4 members stepping off the ATC in early 2025 and to ensure corporate knowledge is well maintained, the ATC is seeking for 4 new members to join the committee as observers over the next 9 months. The selected observers will then be formally appointed to the Appointed Member role in step in early 2025.
Being an observer involves attending the remaining 2 ATC meetings virtually in 2024. Occasionally, you will receive emails out of session from the committee’s secretariat seeking for ATC’s advice or decision on trainee cases and applications.
As an observer, you will not be a voting member for decision making, however, you are strongly encouraged to provide advice and feedback on all matters raised within the Committee. Being an observer will allow you to gain solid understanding of the Committee’s operation so that there can be a smoother transition into the Appointed member role.
This is a great opportunity for Fellows who are willing to support current GACM Advanced Trainees and the training program. In this role, you will help shape the physicians of the future and positively contribute to the direction, workforce and culture of the program in Australia.
You'll be involved in reviewing and monitoring of the training program requirements, assessment and curricula in consultation with the relevant Specialty Society and other stakeholders, and recommend changes to the College Education Committee, via the Adult Medicine Division Education Committee/Paediatrics Division Education Committee/Faculty Education Committee.
Other key responsibilities include:
- monitor training of, and provide support to, supervisors in GACM
- accredit Advanced Training sites or programs in GACM
- assess recognition of prior learning;
- advise on matters relating to Overseas Trained Physicians, as requested;
- modify individual training requirements, as appropriate, in accordance with College policies and procedures;
- assess and provide advice on specialist recognition as General Physician for Fellows in the Medicine Division who have not completed the GACM Advanced Training program
The Committee usually holds 2 meetings via video conference a year, with a potential face-to-face meeting in 2025.
If you are successful, you'll join the ATC as observer and transit into the Appointed Member role in early 2025 which will then be a 3-year term and can be renewed for a further term.
