Expressions of interest are open to join National Health Practitioner Ombudsman (NHPO) Working Group.
The National Health Practitioner Ombudsman (NHPO) Project supports the Training Accreditation Services team in reviewing Training Provider Standards and creating a risk-based outcomes accreditation model to ensure that the RACP continues to deliver the best possible outcome for trainees, supervisors, and settings in the current needs of the Healthcare Environment.
Accreditation is a powerful tool that underpins the delivery of training programs in health services and other settings. Approximately 70 countries, including Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, use accreditation as part of their quality assurance processes around medical education and training. These settings range from tertiary hospitals to non-clinical private enterprises.
In the 5 years since RACP introduced the Training Provider Standards, the healthcare landscape has changed, pandemic changes to healthcare including increased public scrutiny of, and changing expectations around its delivery, the introduction of new learning models and a steady increase in the number of trainees.
As per the NHPO recommendations, the RACP will be conducting research on duplication within the Training Provider standards, weighting of the standards and best practice in relation to risk-based accreditation models.
Applicants must:
- Have unconditional AHPRA or MCNZ registration.
- Involvement in Accreditation (strongly preferred).
Key responsibilities/commitments:
Review the Training Provider Standards and recommend updates. The Training Provider Standards will undergo a detailed review with proposals to weight the standards based on priority of training needs.
Review and recommend risk-based outcomes models for accreditation assessment. Move to risk-based assessment of Training Settings – effectively redistributing the accreditation resources to focus on Settings that have issues.
2 half day virtual workshops will be held in 2024 which are planned for Q2 and Q3 with a review of documents to be conducted leading up to these workshops.
Appointed members will be eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
