Walkers Road, Burnt Bridge Creek Culvert removal and replacement

⁠⁠⁠The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is the managing road authority for approximately 35,000 km of roads and tracks in state forests and 14,000 km in parks and reserves, covering 7.1 million hectares of public land in Victoria. Most of this network provides essential access into the public land estate for numerous land uses including fire management and suppression, forest management, utilisation and commercial activities, and recreational pursuits. Under the Road Management Act (2004) the Department have a legal obligation to maintain the public road network to a safe standard.

The Reducing Bushfire Risk (RBR) program is a government initiative across the public land estate to further lower the risk and severity of bushfires occurring in Victoria. Together DELWP and Parks Victoria manage over 30 percent of Victoria – including nearly 3.2 million hectares of state forest and almost 4.2 million hectares of parks and reserves.

This program will further reduce risk on public land by supporting early detection and rapid suppression of fires through upgrading fire towers, building new bridges and improving roads. The RBR Program will be utilising a combination of delivery methods for the works. This approach is necessary to cover the complexity, size, location, topography, forest structure types and associated risks that make up the body of work. The program requires the services of a suitably qualified civil contractor to ensure satisfactory delivery of some of these works in Upper Murray Fire District.

The Walkers Road, Burnt Bridge Creek culvert within the Upper Murray district has been identified for a culvert replacement. This road is of high importance for firefighting and community access. The department is seeking responses to this request for tender (RFT) for the removal and disposal of the existing culvert on Burnt Bridge Creek, supply and installation of a new box culvert (as per option A in the attached engineering drawings) and disposal of another old culvert from previous works.
