This contract comprises construction of an access way off Tarawera Rd in the Rotorua District (southern of the northern end of Oakera Loop Road). The purpose of the proposed access way is to provide a dedicated access point off Tarawera Rd for commercial forestry vehicles to enter Whakarewarewa Forest. This includes creating an asphalted entrance off Tarawera Rd, and the start of the road into the forest. Construction of the forestry road from the end of the asphalt to Red Tank Rd is out of scope.

Tarawera Rd is a local road situated to the east of Lake Rotorua. It is classified as a local arterial road, with AADT of less than 5,000 vehicles per day.

The scope of this contract is for the supply of all plant, labour, materials, quality assurance, as-built drawings and incidentals necessary for:

• Environmental Management
• Traffic Management
• Earthworks, including disposal
• Drainage Works
• Pavement Construction
• Traffic Signs and Road Markings

All work must comply with the Regional Infrastructure Technical Specifications (RITS).

Due to the high frequency of traffic along Tarawera Rd during the summer/Christmas holiday period construction cannot start before the 6th of February 2024 unless approved mutual agreement.

The works must be completed prior to 31st April, 2024.

Novel and economical ways of disposal of cut-to-waste will be evaluated in the tendering process, given the volume and potential high cost of disposal.

The tenders will be evaluated in accordance with the Lowest Price Conforming Tender method.
